It depends on what you consider to be “hard”

Anyone who knows me has invariably been subject to a spiel about how much I love Claudia Winkleman. In part, it’s because she’s
so silly, and in part, it’s because I’m a huge fan of everything
she presents, from Strictly to The Traitors. 

But even more than any of that, it’s because I’m obsessed with everything she wears.

I’ve spent a fortune copying her exact outfits, from her Sister Jane
heart cutout dress to a bedazzled Nadine Merabi blazer
that I definitely don’t go anywhere fancy enough to wear.

Since 2005, Claudia has worked with stylist Sinead McKeefry to perfect her signature style.
I’d describe it as soft goth: lots of black, velvet and chunky knits, with
a fair few sequins and prints (particularly tartan) thrown in. I’m not alone in my reverence:
there are entire Instagram accounts dedicated to tracking down the presenter’s outfits.
But while they offer incredibly useful style inspo, two issues arise repeatedly: Claudia’s clothes are usually
hugely expensive or sold out (or both).

So when the Strictly host stepped out in a typically preppy black velvet mini dress on Sunday, you’d be forgiven for assuming it was by some top-end
designer. Well, you’d be wrong. The mini dress actually came courtesy of one of our favourite
high street brands, Albaray – and you can pick it up for less than £100.

The dress is made from plush fabric with contrast satin detailing.
The velvet makes it a little festive, perfect for celebratory bashes over the next few months, particularly when paired with white stilettos à la Claud.
But it could be just as easily dressed down with white trainers
or ballet flats and a trench for a chic office outfit, so you’ll certainly get your wear out of it.  

Like all of Albaray’s products, it’s ethically made using responsible fabric and sent via
a carbon-neutral shipping method, so you can feel good about the dress’s eco-credentials as well
as how it looks. It’s currently in stock in a
few sizes online (and in certain John Lewis concessions) but like most things Claudia wears, it won’t stick around long.

Wallflowers get their name from their habit
of growing near  stone walls. 

Erysimum cheiri are shortlived evergreen perennials or biennials often grown as spring bedding. 

You can buy them as plug plants now and get them
in the ground to flower early next year.
This is a fun activity to do with children or grandchildren. All you need
is a well-weeded flower bed in a sunny spot, gardening gloves, and
a trowel. 

Dig a hole so that the base of the plant is level with the soil.
Pop in your young wallflower, firm the earth around it and water
well. Repeat, leaving 20cm between plants. 

They can grow to up to 50cm high depending on the variety and come in a range of bright colours.

E. ‘Fireglow’ is a dazzling red and orange variety; E. ‘Bowles Mauve’ is light purple,
while E. ‘Sunset Primrose’ is a fragrant lemon yellow.

This is also the time to plant plugs of Sweet Williams (Dianthus barbatus).
These are also biennials or short-lived perennials which grow to between 40 to 60cm with clusters of carnation-like flowers from February to June in colours
from white to deep pink, often in a combination of
two tones. They prefer well-drained, alkaline to neutral soil in full sun.

Its deep purplish brown foliage contrasts well with
its ghostly white blooms.

Nothing signals the start of winter quite like the return of
the Fair Isle knit. Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only

As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire, each major candidate has leaned heavily on a
favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat Kamala Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.

In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak, with both topics the subject of fiercely debated
ballot referendums.

And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500 votes — every ballot
truly will count.

In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were
going door-to-door to try to persuade voters to back a ballot
measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution — and,
while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.

To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions
imposed by several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”

She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to let
local law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of having entered

“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez said.

The major political parties see the competing
referendums as offering an opportunity to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the very heart

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White
House that activists hope.

Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona,
with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.

Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support
and both appear likely to pass.

So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.

Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to bring Trump back to the White House, Brian said.

Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,” she added.

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media
after its release last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.

The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections,
and half that of its predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up
for the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie
cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical element
not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the
franchise.

‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was
‘100% as divisive as people are making it out to be. I love
that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed
to the storytelling they presented. It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or

at the Venice Film Festival last month.

‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it after
the response it received from critics before it premiered,’
a source exclusively told DailyMail.com. 

‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so much respect for
the DC comics fan base.’

They added: ‘Her team is quietly looking at other projects they can roll out as they want to move
on this from as quickly as possible.’

It comes after lead star Lady Gaga was left ‘disappointed’ at the immense flood of negative

But despite the lacklustre reception from fans, a second
source claimed she is not letting it deter her from returning to the big screen,
with the singer said to be eyeing up a Quentin Tarantino
movie.

‘She thought that this film could get her an Oscar nomination, especially since the first
film was such a success and Joaquin won an Oscar.

‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next
and final film. Nobody knows what that is going to be, but she wants to audition. 

‘She’s going to lobby hard to get a meeting with him once a script is presented, it is a bucket list moment for her to be involved.’

Pricing details of billionaire John Caudwell’s spectacular 1 Mayfair development have
now been revealed and only those with the deepest pockets can hope to afford one
of the lavish pads.

The cheapest apartment on offer is expected to be an eye-watering £35million – around 70 times the average cost of a house in the capital.

Due to complete in Spring 2026 the scheme will easily surpass London’s previous record breaker, the £1.3billion One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.

Caudwell told The Standard that there are already more than 600 prospective buyers on a waiting
list of billionaires and centi-millionaires who have expressed an interest in making a
purchase at the scheme.

There will be just 24 ‘principal residences’ in the property including lateral apartments, penthouses and townhouses with up to five bedrooms, and five more smaller ‘pieds-à-terre’ apartments.

The size of the homes has not yet been disclosed
but the developers say even the most modest property will start with a
guide price exceeded by only a handful of mansions in London’s richest neighbourhoods. 

The average price of all 29 units – which cover 300,000 sq ft – will be close to £70million.

The entry level price of £35million is 70 times the average
London property value of around £500,000, and 130 times the national average price of £268,000 revealed in today’s Nationwide
house price survey for November.

The development’s basement is being dug down to 90ft below ground level to make room for a health spa with a
20 metre swimming pool as well as a car park.

The designs were led by New York based architect Robert
Stern and practice RAMSA, with contractors, Mace, the construction managers and
PJ Carey responsible for the creation of the basement substructure and superstructure.

Due to complete in Spring 2026 after a six years build the scheme will easily surpass London’s previous record breaker,
the £1.3billion One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.

Caudwell – who founded the mobile phones retailers Phones 4u
– attended the topping out of 1 Mayfair alongside senior members of the construction team.

The ceremony was marked by the final steel rafter, one of 79 at roof level, being put
into place on the top of the nine-storey main apartment
building.

No expense has been spared on the building’s interior and it
will feature a ceiling with hand-painted frescos based on Michelangelo’s Map of the Heavens in the Vatican, a reception room with a double height ceiling and
18ft high French windows overlooking the garden.

There will also be a Palace of Versailles Hall of Mirrors-style crystal callery,
created from over 1,264 hand-set pieces of cut glass, a library and a garden gallery, with seating areas opening directly onto the
central courtyard garden.

Feb 8 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International forecast
2024 profit below expectations and missed fourth-quarter estimates on Thursday,
as heated tobacco product sales disappointed and higher costs weighed on performance.

The company had earlier said that pressures on its margins should
ease in the second half of 2023, as factors such as increased use of third-party manufacturing in countries like Indonesia and Ukraine faded.

However, fresh blows to margins emerged in the fourth quarter, including higher costs of marketing, energy
and tobacco leafs, as well as administrative expenses, sending
its adjusted operating income margin down 2.8 percentage points to
33.7%.

Shares of PMI were down 2.3% in premarket trade.

Shipments of sticks for its flagship heated tobacco device IQOS also fell short of analyst expectations, and PMI said they would be hit again in 2024 due
to a ban on heated tobacco flavors in the European Union.

The company’s total cigarettes and heated tobacco units (HTUs) shipment
volumes dropped 0.5% in the fourth quarter, compared to a 2.2% increase in the
third.

Philip Morris said it expected total cigarette, HTU and oral smoke-free product shipment volumes to be flat or grow by up to 1% in 2024, mostly driven by
smoke-free products.

It expects adjusted annual profit of between $6.32 and $6.44 per share,
while analysts were expecting $6.60 per share, LSEG data showed.

The downbeat forecast contrasts with that of rival Altria Group, which last week projected
2024 profit in line with expectations. It is betting on higher cigarette prices and a
shift to alternative nicotine products to cushion the blow from
declining demand for traditional tobacco products.

PMI reported fourth-quarter adjusted profit of $1.36 per share.
Analysts on average had expected a profit of $1.45.
