Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday that the scale and intensity of respiratory infectious diseases in China are lower than those of the same period last year, and human metapneumovirus (HMPV), which has existed in human society for over 60 years, is not a new strain, portraying common viruses as “unknown viruses” contradicts scientific knowledge and is alarmist.
