The highly anticipated short track speed skating event of the 14th National Winter Games kicked off on Friday, with athletes from Heilongjiang, Jilin and Shandong provinces winning three gold medals. The titles were clinched in the women’s and men’s 1,500 meters, as well as the 2,000-meter mixed relay.

The highlight of the day was the women’s 1,500-meter final, where Zang Yize, representing Team Heilongjiang, surged ahead in the final stretch, surpassing Jilin’s top contender Zhang Chutong to claim the gold medal in 2 minutes and 22.262 seconds.

This edition marks the first national comprehensive sports event held after the Beijing Winter Olympics and the inaugural hosting of such an event in Inner Mongolia.
